    Re: WRC news

day 1 of Monte is done and a certain frog who was kicking butt by over a minute crashed on the last stage today Big Smile [:D]

Marcus was quoted as saying "I'm driving like my grandmother" due to the very icy conditions

Poor Petter messed up again, hope he can improve over the next two days--Atkinson is surprisingly good and in an old car too.

anybody on here signed up for the WRC Plus coverage?  It's about $75 a year and most of the events are live in the middle of the night here, but if we don't get tv....maybe later

    Re: WRC news

Looks like Petter is out for good with an oil leak that caused engine damage.  The icy conditions should make for an interesting drive.

What a great way to start off the season.  Indifferent [:|]  He could have at least got a few points for 7th or 8th place.  I didn't expect him to place top three.

Thats okay, Petter's season doesn't really start until Sweden anyway.  I watched the 3 day coverage of Monte last night.  The road conditions were horrible.  On the downhill icy sections they really were creaping along.  Loeb's performance was amazing.  Had it not been for his off at the end of day one, he would have won the event by nearly 5 minutes!

GOOD GRIEF Huh? [:^)] Petter is already 2:46 back after the first two stages. Driveshaft broke on first stage.

What does he have to do to catch a break, oh wait, besides car parts that break?

    Re: WRC news

Agreed.  As much as I can't figure out why Petter's had such a bad run of luck, it's good to see Gronholm starting to look like he did 4 or so years ago when Tommi and he did battle on a rally by rally basis.  I remember McCrae predicting that the mech. diffs require a different driving style and might not suit some of the younger drivers' styles (he was responding to a question about Loeb's skill and the change in diffs).

    Re: WRC news

way to go Marcus.  Poor Petter, he screwed up on the first two stages, then on day two he stuffed it and broke the gearbox and then it looks like he messed up again on ss18 today.  Hopefully he's got all the bad luck out of his system.  Subaru should be trouncing everyone instead of sucking wind.

What a battle between the Mitsu's.  I think they'd be battling for wins with factory $$ money behind them.  Galli and Carlsson were neck n neck the whole way thru--less than a second or so apart for the last two days

    Re: WRC news

given that Petter had mechanical problems everyday, I guess its good that they all happened on the same rally so that hopefully they can be fixed starting in Mexico.  I just hope they don't have a season like last year again Sad [:(]

I am glad to see Gronholm winning though.  He was pushing so hard the past two years but the 307 was too much of a handicap.  I am also enjoying seeing Seb actually have to drive hard and make mistakes now that he doesn't have a car head and shoulders above his rivals.

    Re: WRC news

all the blue car fans need to say their prayers and cross their fingers for the next 2 days.  Petter is in the lead in Mexico after day one Big Smile [:D] but won't have the benefit of his good starting position the rest of the rally.  Maybe Marcus got Petter's case of bad luck and Petter will win this time.  Seb was coming on strong in the second run thrus tho.  Mikko surpisingly in second, but also had road swept for him friday.  fyi, USA's own John Cassidy is third in Pug cup class so far.  He was in our group last year that went.  Gubelman doesn't seem to be faring as well.

    Re: WRC news

Crying [:'(]  Well second is better than Petter has been finishing.   Just can't beat that dang frog.  I guess the loss of power steering on those last two stages on sat. were the killer, not to mention the dog he hit.  Anybody see anything more about the rocks that were lined across the road on Friday?  Marcus being first car was the first to hit them but weren't big enough to damage anything, I guess--happened twice.

do you think the car is supposed to do this in the back?  seems kinda excessive  http://motorsport.com/photos/wrc/2006/mex/wrc-2006-mex-xp-0183.jpg

    Re: WRC news

Doh! I was watching the videos and I knew something was going to go wrong. He always seems to have things going wrong with the car. That would have been a win for him. When the steering went, he was 5 seconds up on the Frog at the last split time, so, he probably would have gained another 10 seconds or so. At least both fords crashed. That will help with the points battle, but Petter has a long way to go if he wants the championship.

    Re: WRC news

    i'd rather ford/gronholm win than citroen/loeb.

apparently, the PS was leaking before he hit the rock, so it wouldn't have mattered anyway Sad [:(]

    anybody know why SRT-USA bailed?
