    FS: 1995 BMW 540i 6-speed.

I thought I'd throw this up here locally first before I throw it on some national forums. This would make a great daily driver for the car enthusiast!

    General:

    1995 BMW 540i with 6speed Manual transmission.

    Oxford Green over Tan Leather

Sport Edition: Larger Brakes, sports suspension, M5 sport seats.

    164,000 miles

    The Good:

-I've got records from the previous couple owners back to 70k miles.

    -Hella OEM Clear Corners

    -New Chrome Kidney Grills

-17x8.5 M Contour replicas with new 235/45/17 Avon Tech M500 summer tires

-Jim C. Chip for the ECU

    -Bilstien Shocks

    -B&B catback Exhaust (sounds great!)

-Sony MP3 head unit with aux adaptor for iPod (matches OEM interior gauge illumination)

-10 disc Sony CD changer in trunk

    -E39 M5 Shift knob

    -6000k HID kit low beams

-Hella H1 yellowstar fog light bulbs

-New Sachs OEM clutch, throwout bearing, etc.

-Previous Owner went over the following less than 40k miles ago:

Thrust arm bushings, tie rod ends, center link, 3mm spring pads, rear dogbone, Racing King subframe inserts, rear swaybar links.

    The Bad:

-PowerSteering fluid has a slow leak. It's fine for daily driving, but will leak if it sits for a long time. (I'll include 2L of BMW OEM PS fluid)

-12 way power driver's seat doesn't move. (Wasn't a problem for me, it was in my driving position) I'll look into it, but this might be an issue if you aren't 6'4" like me :)

-Passenger seat is crooked, but functions perfectly. After talking with a BMW shop, it seems there are cables that might be caught under the seat. Again, I'll look into it.

-Windshield Washer resivour leaks. I've sealed all the motors, so it must be the connection to the line.

    The Ugly:

-This car needs a re-spray. The clearcoat is gone on all Horizontal surfaces. The paint can be buffed up to a wonderful shine, but if you get behind on waxing it, it will show oxidation.

-Small tear on driver side seat bolster

-Wear and tear on a 13 year old car. Less than normal wear, but still an older car.

-Minor door dings that won't show up in pics.

Reason for Selling:I'm finally going to start building up my 240SX for competition in stage rally, and I need to free up some money and garage space. I hate to see it go, but the 540i is the only extravagant car I have.

Bottom Line:Amazing amount of car for the money. You just cant find this level of refinement, handling, and power anywhere else.

PicturesI snapped a few pictures tonight... sorry about the lighting, I'm putting in waaay too much OT at work. And for that reason, the grills aren't installed, and the car is really dirty.

I'll get better shots sometime when I've got some more time.

Price: $6,500 OBO. I'm open to negotiation, but not super motivated to sell it.

I did not see this in any of the above information but you may want to be prepared to answer the question on which engine it has, Nikasil or Alusil. Just a little help for you as I certainly do not need another Bimmer project............................or do I?

Tempting....     Maybe if it ran...  I need money much more than I need another project car. Smile

    Bud,

This is an original Nikasil motor.  (Haven't checked myself, but previous owner told me it was)  I never really worried about it.  I know for a fact the past 3 owners (and myself) used low-sulfur, high octane fuel  and if the cylinder walls haven't eaten themselves in 164000 miles, I think they'll be OK Wink

For those of you not up to date on the casting materials of the M60 block see the bottom here:  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW_M60

Also, this is an amazing and somewhat rare car. Only 1523 E34 chassis 540i with 6 speed manual transmissions were sent to North America.  Of those, 135 were M-Sport editions, and a further 32 were M540i....  so that leaves 1356 of these "normal" 540i/6 cars in the US and Canadia.  This was a $50k when it rolled off the lots in 1995, and a very rare enthusiast option, so you can understand what I mean when I say it's a great car for the money.

I've found the fixes for the seats, and should have those done this weekend.

It's going to take a bit more than 6500 to make that 240 rally ready.  I hope you can do it.

How could it possibly take more than $6500 to get anything "rally ready?" Especially when he already has the car? Rally "competitive" maybe, but "ready?"

Besides, he's just looking for extra fundage and some room to move around in the garage Smile

Oh, I know that.  It's not like I was planning on selling the BMW and then the 240 instantly becoming a rally car.  This is just for some tools around the shop/garage.  The 240 is on 2-3 year build plan.  I'll just have a little more money trickling into the 240 fund if I'm not paying insurance on 5 cars at a time. Re: FS: 1995 BMW 540i 6-speed.

on the off chance anybody is interested:

Interior Pics:I was trying to wait until I'd fixed the passenger seat crookedness, but here's a few quick ones in the meantime:*note small tear in driver's bolster. There are more in the gallery: http://picasaweb.google.com/rallyxPOS13/95BMW540i6SpeedForSaleOverall I'd say the interior is 7.5/10. The floormats are getting to be a little ratty with their age, and there is the small tear in the driver's seat. Otherwise the interior is in very good condition.Took a couple engine bay shots:The original plasticy engine cover will be included for those of you who like to keep the mystery alive of what's under the hood...While under there I remembered a noteworthy thing about the car: Early on when I owned the car, the intake worked itself loose on the freeway. It then went into the fan, cutting a gouge into the plastic intake pipe, and breaking small chunks off of the shroud. Instead of replacing the $90 plastic piece, I opted for $3 black duct tape.... because it is, afterall, a duct. I don't feel this affects the drivability of the car at all, but for full disclosure I'll tell you anyway. I want to be as honest as possible to any potential buyers, and take $100 off the asking price. $6400 OBOpic:Here are another couple pictures. The wheels are in "like new" condition with no curb rash, and the tires have full tread depth and less than 1000 miles on them. The Avon Tech M500's fit this car's personality perfectly. They have very responsive sidewalls to deal with the car's heft, and provide plenty of sound deadening at speed. I recently replaced the same tires, and they were fantastic throughout their entire life.I understand how frustrating it is to buy a car online. I'll try my best to describe this car's condition as it pertains to a BMW enthusiast. If you have any specifics areas you'd like to me take pictures of (any close-ups, and specific angles) feel free to ask, and I'll have those up for you ASAP. If you are displeased with the quality of the hosted, linked images, feel free to send me a PM with your email address, and I'll shoot you some full size high res images of specific areas. All I'd ask is that you bear with me, I'm working a lot of overtime and weekends at work, and it might take a while for me to get out to the car to take the shots.-Matt
