without that red flag, who knows

I couldn't believe that many cars spun out at the same turn.  hello, it's slippery.  then Lewis get's preferential treatment and dug out first, hmmm. Wink

That's correct.  I don't think any of the folks, in that turn, that killed it were allowed to return to the race.  Otherwise, why would Lewis be the only one 1 lap down at the time they let him drive through?

    Re: FORMULA 1 THIS WEEKEND!!

OK, so I just got around to watching the F1 race from this past weekend and I'm still not sure what to think of Alonso's actions in the pits during Q3.

I understand the first stop, they held him for some reason (presumably to find a hole in traffic for good flying lap), but then the tire warmer cord got stuck.  I'm fine with that one.  It's the second one when Hamilton was behind him and Alonso just sat there even after the lollypop was raised.  I have a hard time believing that the engineers on the wall would tell him to wait, but not have the lollypop down on the nose until it was time to leave.  It sure does look awfully suspicious that he was holding up Hamilton so he couldn't get his flying lap in.

    So....

    1) Did Alonso intentionally hold Hamilton back (either through his own volition or his personal engineer's, of whom Ron Denis was not pleased with per replay) during that second stop?

    2) Was the FIA correct in dealing with intrateam pit stop doings?  On track I can see, between teams, but between teammates in the pit?

    3) Was the penalty handed down to McLaren/Alonso appropriate?

BTW, I am disappointed to see Red Bull removed Scott Speed from driving (but not from his contract?),and the numbers show he is better than Vitantonio Liutzi (sp?) who is still racing...

    Re: FORMULA 1 THIS WEEKEND!!

    1. It is widely believed he did intentionally block Hamilton. It was also believed however that Hamilton had impeded Alonso earlier in the session (not allowing him to pass) despite the team instructing him to let him pass.

    2. Personally, I'd think it should be the teams', not FIA's, decision to reprimand the drivers.

    3. Alonso, yes. Not sure about the team penalty though.

On Red Bull/Torro Rosso, Liuzzi won't be driving for long, with what is now confirmed 3-time (likely will win his 4th this season) Sebastien Bourdais will finally get a chance to go to F1: http://www.speedtv.com/articles/auto/formulaone/39335/

I am disappointed Scott Speed is out. He does have better skills than Liuzzi, but his attitude towards the team and owner was a detriment to STR, which was a underlying reason why he got the boot.

    Re: FORMULA 1 THIS WEEKEND!!

Wow... $100M fine plus loss of constructors points for '07.  At least the drivers still get to duke it out.  As Jackie Stewart said, there must be something more to the offense that warrants that big of a fine, when that type of thing (maybe not on this big of scale, or as publicly known) happens somewhat regularly.  Maybe its the fact that they were still employed (at the time) with their respective teams, as opposed to trying to find new teams and using info that way.  Who knows, maybe more info will continue to leak out.  Hopefully this is mostly behind the sport now, and the focus can return to the racing.

    Re: FORMULA 1 THIS WEEKEND!!

As much as I'd like to have seen Hamilton win it (just so Alonso *didn't*), YAY KIMI!!!!  Way to take it to 'em!  *Note- here come the "ifs"....  It would probably not have happened this way if Louis didn't drive off course at the beginning, and then lose the clutch duty during the race.

Great race, enjoyed everybit, and like Chris, around lap 10 or so, my heart started pounding, and I was on the edge of my couch just waiting for more people to start retiring (what, like 8 cars out??? wow...).

Great drive, go Kimi, go Ferrari!

I still can't believe that happened.  And how was the rest of the field almost minute or more behind?

    Anyway, Ferrari FTW!

I did feel bad for Massa having to give up the race win, he deserved it, but he was working for the good of the team so to speak.

    Re: FORMULA 1 THIS WEEKEND!!

I'm glad Kimi pulled it out...what a dramatic and historic race! He should've already had at least one other Driver's Championship (or two), so congrats to him, finally! Even in defeat, Lewis Hamilton is still pretty classy about all this. If Alonso wants to really get out of a sinking ship and go to Renault, now is the time.

For those of you that don't know, looks like Kimi's title might be in jeopardy....

    http://www.speedtv.com/articles/auto/formulaone/41169/

If McLaren somehow wins their appeal, this would be a very sad day for F1 for someone (even if it is Hamilton) to win the title on a protest. The championship should be decided on the track, not the court!
