    Re: WRC news

did ya see that Ford signed Hirvonen for the second car next year?

idiots.  they'll get what they deserve.  Gardemiester would have been a much better choice IMHO.

    Re: WRC news

A rally was run at Monza last weekend that looks pretty cool. Info here: http://www.monzanet.it/F1_eng/rally.aspx

    Pictures on motorsport.com

    V. Rossi was there in a 05 spec WRC Subaru and took 2nd over Colin in a Skoda.  First went to Rinaldo Capello also in a Skoda.  Had some cool older Grp A cars there among others.  Rossi must be stupid fast in everything he drives/rides.  I know he's driven rally cars before, but can't be easy to jump in that car and beat all those other drivers.  I think he'll be at Ferrari F1 in 07.

    Bud should have gone.

    Re: WRC news

Red Bull to run a WRC team now.  Talk about saturating the racing market.  I like that they're willing to spend the bucks but how long will it last?  As long as they keep selling that nasty-a$$ drink, I guess.

    http://www.speedtv.com/articles/auto/rally/21096/

Also, they're running the Safari rally for vintage cars this week.  I remember Stephanie mentioning it awhile back.  Check it out here http://www.eastafricansafarirally.com/index.html  Stig's running and of course doing well.  Also found this comment on the old Safari rallies.  I can't even imagine all this testing.  "Bjorn WaldegĂ„rd /David Cavanagh - S/RI - Porsche 911
"I remember back in the Toyota days the amount of preparation we did for this rally. There would be one month at the end of the year, before Christmas, and then back in January for another month of confirmation tests. Then we'd arrive early for the recce, deciding what we were doing for the rally, as well as doing two full surveys of the route, maybe three. In total, I'd say we did 30,000 kilometres preparation for one Safari Rally, including the event. That's why I got upset at home when people said it was easy for us!"

    Re: WRC news

On the WRC front, a couple of developments:

Poor Loeb has tested the C4 and is having trouble adjusting to the new diff requirementsSurprise [:O]  I specifically remember McRae mentioning before GB that some of the younger drivers might have trouble with this since the new diffs do so much for the driver (Petter has commented after some testing that he likes the new diffs since it better suits his driving style).

Instead of just engines being used for 2 rallies, now it's a combination of requirements on engine, chassis, and diffs: http://www.wrc.com/page/BreakingNewsDetail/0,,10111~753371,00.html  At the very least some serious leaps forward might make it into street cars in the near future under these requirements.

    Re: WRC news

Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) has announced that it has decided to suspend participation in the FIA World Rally Championship series from 2006.

With the Mitsubishi Motors Revitalization Plan as a basis, MMC has made a solid start toward revitalizing its business operations. However, to strengthen and build upon this base, MMC realizes that it must focus management resources on the continued promotion of the revitalization plan.

Mitsubishi Motors hopes to return to the WRC Championship series from 2008, after the completion of the 3-year revitalization plan, which covers fiscal 2005 to 2007.

This decision however does not extend to MMC's efforts in the Dakar Rally. Mitsubishi Motors will continue to compete in this event.

Starting with an overall championship in the Safari Rally in 1974, the Mitsubishi WRC Team has accomplished a spectacular 34 wins in the WRC series. The team won the drivers' title 4 consecutive years from 1996 to 1999, and won the prestigious manufacturers' title in 1998.

    Re: WRC news

It's a real pity but I can understand why they had to do it. Is WRC participation a money-maker for any manufacturer? You'd have to sell a staggering number of extra cars just to make enough extra profits to cover the cost.

    Re: WRC news

that is a bummer.  I was gonna pick them as a dark horse to win some events next year since they already have a year on the car that no one else has.

So that only leaves Ford and Subaru, yes?  Might be a boring year as long as both get the reliability down.  Glad I got to see all 6 factory teams run this year.

    Re: WRC news

WRC season is only days away Geeked [8-|]  Some news I saw recently is that BF Goodrich name is taking over Michelin in rally this year.  They were on Dakar cars this year too, I noticed.  Ford and most of the privateers are running them.   And there are a lot of privateers entered at Monte.  There's 26 WRC class cars--that seems like a lot.  Galli is running a Mitsu.  Duval & Panizzi are in Skodas.  The British Ford team is entering a Focus WRC04 for Matthew Wilson for the whole season.  Youngest to ever start Monte at 18.  Must be nice to have contacts.  Gardemeister is running a Pug 307, separate from the OMV team also running Pugs all year.  Kronos has 3 Xsaras, one of which is rent all season--shall we pool our funds? Hmm [^o)]  I guess Martin is sitting out for awhile. The Blue team is the only one not to change any drivers this year and that's got to be some kind of advantage.

No word yet on when (or if) it will be on tv.  According to some sites, their Euro tv contract was still up in the air.  Last I saw, it seemed pretty likely that the US would get a hour or two wrap up show a week or two after the event.  Better than nothing, I guess.

    Re: WRC news

old news about BFG.  They're owned by Michelin.  It was a marketing decision to have their 'off road' tires be BFG and their circuit tires be Michelin.  Its really no substantive change.  Same people, same facilities, same tires.
