It's with a semi heavy heart that I say goodbye to my 1965 Dodge Dart Convertible. I've had it for sale for a while, ever since I lost my $25 per month storage. It was one of those situations where I really didn't want to sell it, but knew I couldn't hang on to it either or its condition would really start to deteriorate.
The vert was purchased 8 or 9 years ago off of EBay... back when you could still find good deals... and of course, get screwed royally. The Vert was a little of both. We flew to Pennsylvania with a backpack full of tools (try that today!), a new fangled cell phone and picked up the car at the airport. Pretty much sight unseen. Hopped in the car and headed back to St. Louis, top down all the way. The brakes were a little funky (9" drums up front, 10" drums in the back) and we found out that the gas tank leaked if you put more than 3/4 of a tank in it, but it was Sunny & 75 all day long. Nothing like top down driving at sunset on the open road.
After getting it home, the fun started when things started going wrong. New dash wiring, new floorpan and subframe connectors, motor swap, tranny swap, suspension and brake swap etc. It was a fun car and fun to work on, but not very practical, especially when you've got a car seat and no seatbelts in the back.
It sounds like it will live a good life. The potential buyer lives just south of Sacramento, California and his wife has always liked 64 & 65 Darts. It'll share garage space with a couple of former SEMA show cars and a big block Dart project. It deserves a good home and some TLC. I'm sure my poor 66 will love to see it go. Unfortunately, that doesn't mean it gets moved back up the line. It's doing too good a job as a tubing rack!
Oh... pics of the 65 and the 66... http://www.angelfire.com/mo2/radrodder
