The E30 BMW showed up for it's 4 point bar. This is by far the best looking vehicle that has come in to the shop for some work. It's interior is decked out with very nice grey leather. I'm quickly finding out that it's a whole new ballgame when the car's not a work in progress. Putting everything back in that you took out is even more of a challenge.
Just like in racing, you have to look ahead and think 2 or 3 moves from where you're at now. Otherwise, you'll work yourself into a corner. As I'm typing this, I just realized now that I've installed the hoop diagonal, I need to toss the back seat in before I install the harness bars to see if I can get it in after the fact, or if the seat needs to be placed before the bars go in.
The car was in for a 4 point rollbar with a hoop diagonal and rear crossbar in the trunk. The full interior was to go back in, including the rear seat and seat back. While we're in there, I'll be beefing up the rear shock mounts. Apparently, these are pretty weak from the factory.
First on the list was to get the car setup and safe from fabrication wear and tear. All door edges and openings were double taped and quarter panels were covered. Once the car was leveled up the interior removal commenced, then the seam sealer removal. Ugh... BMW undercoating. Horrible stuff.
As of right now, the Hoop and rear hoop supports are done as well as the diagonal. The hoop is so tight to the interior that I had to paint the hoop and supports before installing them in order to be able to get access to the entire tube and to keep paint off of the headliner and side panels.
The rear crossbar will go in next followed by the shock tower reinforcements, so that I can button up the rear bulkhead (holes were cut for access to the rear pad areas)
Pics to come
