.... is challenging without the bottle to make sure everything fits nicely. Building a tight fitting cage always has it's challenges, but building a tight fitting cage without the car on hand to go by makes you scratch your head and stare a lot. Luckily, this is the 2nd cage I've built for this type of car, a 70's BMW 2002, and I've had access to a beautifully prepped 2002 to double check my measurements.

The main structure of the cage is already finished (hoop, diagonal and double bend harness bar, downbars and crossbars) with the rear braces and pads to be finished in the next couple of days.

The cage will be going into a BMW 2002 that will be racing in the Colorado area BMWCCA's Modified class. The inline 4 cylinder has been replaced with an inline 6 which bumps it into the Mod class. The cage downbars will go through the dash with forward bars attaching to the factory strut towers. The rear hoop braces will mount to the rear shock mounts with a diagonal triangulating the two braces.

Once the 2002's cage is out the door a very cool Nissan 300z turbo street car is coming in for a 6 point rollbar and subframe connectors. The Z has some terminal cancer on one of its factory "frame" rails and will be having them replaced with square tubing while tying the whole car together with the 6 point rollbar.
