In some downtime between bending tube, I decided yet again to swap the motor in the RX7. I'm definitely starting to get the process down to a science as far as the out and in part.
I was never able to get the replacement motor to fire off, which actually was a good thing. Their was a crack in one of the intermediate housings which ended up being right in a water jacket. When I drained the oil in preparation for pulling the motor, the oil had the tell-tale sign of water in the oil. The oil looked like milk chocolate and the motor never even fired off!
The swap went fairly easy and the motor fired off with ease.... but...
The motor is vibrating like crazy. So far I've eleminated crossed wires, loose motormounts, incorrect or loose flywheel, off-center clutch/pressure plate, one rotor not firing....
It's got me a little puzzled. I pulled the transmission back off to check the alignment of the clutch and the pressure plate. The only thing odd is that the flywheel is missing the alignment pins for the p/plate. It's sure got me scratching my head. I might make a spacer for the starter or toss the tranny back up in the car without the clutch/ pressure plate to see if it still vibrates.
Sooooo close... but still far. I've got a Spec Miata coming for a cage in a week so I'd better figure something out!
