PFM Racing is my life!

Life is good!

  • Buzz is done!!!!!!

YEAH! We will be in Hallett this weekend with Buzz. I am so excited and can't wait to get on the road.

Thanks so much to Curt, Doug, Ruth, Jim, Phil, Bill and everyone else who has helped us.

  • Even closer..

We got the Koni's for Buzz today!!!!!! Thanks Dave.

The brakes from The Brake Man will be here on Monday.

The hood from Harwood came in yesterday too. Interestingly, the hood was delivered via truck because of its size. So yesterday Jude got a call from the driver saying that he was at our house and wanted to know where we were because someone needs to sign off on the delivery. Well, Jude was in the city working and could not get home soon so he asked the driver to please deliver it to Curt's shop, AFI. The driver said that would be fine but how should he turn his truck around! This was a full size 18 wheeler, Jude said that he did not know what he should do about turning around because as many of you know we live on a state highway and have a fairly narrow driveway. There is certainly no place to turn a full size 18 wheeler around. When Jude got home he expected to find damage to the yard but lo and behold, you could not even tell that a full size 18 wheeler had been at our house much less got in and out. Very impressive.

We got the fire system in early this week. I think that we have finally accumulated all of the last bits and pieces to complete Buzz. He should be ready for a motor this weekend.

His debut will be at Hallett Motor Racing Circuit on April 14th and I cannot wait.

On a more personal note, things are great. I love my husband and have great friends. My mom got some great signatures from the Cardinals spring training for me and is back down there to try to get some more. Baseball is almost here!!!!! GO CARDS!

  • Almost......

Buzz, 1992 Camaro that we are building to compete in American Sedan is approaching completion. I can't wait.

I just got off of the phone with Dave at SPS and have a brand spankin' new set of yellow Koni's on the way. THANKS DAVE!!!!!!! Big Smile

Jim is almost done with the motor. The chassis is ready, now all we need are the brakes.

I am really anxious to hear him start.

Once he is done, we can get the 240SX back to the shop and get a motor in it and then go and terrorize the ITA fields. I know that Jim wants to run it a little bit.

Then after that, we will get the Fiat back out to the shop and get her a new cage so that we can run in ITC too to give Curt a run for his money.

  • Things are Great!

So, the rally is this weekend and Jim and Tess will run the Jeep for the last time.

Jim has bought a new and great car to replace it.

It is a great 1973 Celica.

I am so excited about this car, I have always loved the early Toyota's and since 1973 was such a good year (I was born in 1973) how could we go wrong.

Buzz, our new AS car is coming along just fine, it might be done for Memphis but I am not going to hold my breath.

The new ITR class offers us an interesting opportunity as our street Mustang is classed there and is really light, so we might just have to turn it into a race car next winter.

On a more personal note, things couldn't be better. I love my husband more than ever. My family is a bigger part of my life. I have wonderful friends who I care about deeply.I have great critters who share my life. I love my job and it is almost race season. What more  could a girl ask for.

I do need to start exercising though but I can put that off......

  • And so it begins....

Well, only 6 more days before our race season officially begins with the 100 Acre Wood. Jim and Tess are ready to go and win this year. The Jeep is all ready and had no major issues from last year so we changed the oil and washed it up and it was ready to go.

Once that event is over, we will have Buzz our new SCCA American Sedan Camaro ready to go shortly so that Jude can get on his way to the Runoffs.

We have a great schedule planned, much of which is outside of the MidWest Division.

We will still be running our ITA Nissan 240SX and hopefully get the ITC Fiat 124 out some this year (it needed a new cage).

Jim will be driving his American Sedan and a Miata in SM along with getting some good time in the Nissan.

I am really looking forward to another great year of racing.

  • Wow, what a weekend!

This weekend was a blast. I will start my story from the beginning.

It all started the previous weekend, Jude had finished getting the motor back in the 240 on Saturday 9/9/6. He called Steven to see if he could get it to the dyno on Sunday. Steven was kind enough to oblige. Jude, Jim and Steven got the car up and running for three or four pulls then it all went bad. There was a terrible rod knock. The sure sign that a bearing was spun or about to spin. Talk about disappointment. Jude went home to try to figure out how to get to MAM the next weekend to secure his ITA championship.

He racked his brain to come up with another ITA car to drive. Fortunately, Jim Stevens is just a great guy and said that Jude could drive the RX-7 in Group 1 and Jim will drive it in Group 4. What a guy! :)

On Saturday 9/16/6, Jude, Ruthie and I load up into the Mustang to meet Jim and the BFT (Big F****** Toter) in Warrenton. We get there and load the Mustang into BFT and we are on our way. I have to pause here to say that the BFT is one of the coolest things that I have ever been lucky enough to be a part of. It is sooooo cool to ride that high. You can look down into what the people in cars are doing as they pass you. Too much fun.

We make it to MAM in record time and Jim did a fabulous job of parking the BFT, which is not the easiest thing to do. We unloaded the Mustang and watched the Enduro for a bit. The next step was dinner. After a great dinner at the casino, we all headed back to the track to watch a great lightening storm.

At 6:00 am Sunday morning the whole crew was up and moving. We needed to register, get Curt, Jim and Jude through tech, get new tires for the RX-7 and get to grid all by 8:00 am. With a lot of hustle and a bit of luck Jude and Curt were on grid and ready to go for qualifying.

Jude qualified okay and Curt had a brake issue but all went well. Group 4 came around and Jim ran blindingly fast in the RX-7 qualifying 5th overall in a field of Miata's! Way to go Jim.

The race came quick, Group 1 was gridded up by 10:30 a.m.! Jude needed to beat only one guy, Steve Bachenberg, in order to secure his championship. So here comes the start. Jude did not get the best start but Pete Knese in the PFM ITA BMW flew up through the field! At about turn 5 Jude came in too hot and got a little tap from Travis Norwald which flung Jude off track. He kept his momentum up and got back on track dead last.

You would think that all hope was lost but shortly thereafter Travis spun off and came back on track right behind Jude. Steve was still a half of a lap ahead of Jude but Jude and Travis were making up time. On lap eight or so, Steve ended up off track. So now we have first and second in the ITA Mid-Am points race together with Travis right there.

I have never been more nervous watching a race. Jude was right on Steve and passed him a number of times but just couldn't make any of them stick. Jude ran a fabulous race. His fastest lap was 1:50.457 which is the fastest that Jude had ever run at MAM.

The next race was Jim in Group 4. Jim was qualified 5th with only Miata's in front and behind him. He ran a fabulous race with no mistakes. His fastest lap was a blistering 1:49.631. The next RX-7 ran a fast lap of 1:52.495. Jim is fast and it is so much fun to watch him run a car that we (PFM) built that well. Good job Jim!!!!

After all the racing was done, we loaded up and headed home. All of us very pleased with the weekend.

Thanks to Jim and Ruthie for all of their help.

As a note, Jude has to win both ITA races at Gateway in October to secure his championship.

  • Jim Stevens is still my hero!

He is a track record setting fool! He managed to set a new track 1:42.585 in the American Sedan at Mid-America Motorplex! Way to go Jim!!!

The 240SX was not running very well so we loaded it up and took it home to give it the appropriate TLC.

We could not have had better weather or better company for the weekend.

Next is Gateway on May 6th & 7th.

  • Jim Stevens is my Hero!!!

So, we went to Hallett this weekend to race. I love Hallett. We had a great weekend. Firstly the weather was spectacular. I got to wear shorts on Sunday!!!

On Saturday, Jude ran a great racein the PFM ITA 240SX, finishing third behind the track record holder and the former track record holder. His fastest lap on Saturday was a 1:32.5. Way to go Jude!!!

In the IT-7 car, Jim again set the track record at a blindingly fast 1:33.013. Way to go Jim!!!!

Then on Sunday we had some fuel problems with the 240, the culprit appears to be the fuel pressure regulator and the return line. The car was running excessively rich and not well at all. We were able to get it kinda fixed and Jude finished 4th with a fast lap of 1:34.5. The car was running like crap. Needless to say we have a bit of work to do before MAM.

In the AS race on Sunday, Jim got off to a great start right behind Tom Smith. When they came around to begin the second lap, Jim had taken first place. He was moving. Shortly after that he was hit by a car in another class which put him into third place. The hit was unfortunately directly in the rear tire and on lap nine Jim was forced to pull over due to a shelled differential.

Even though he did not get to finish the race running, he did capture the track record in AS with a time of 1:26.429!!! I know call him Super Speedy Jim! Way to go!!

All in all it was a great weekend. Our next outing is going to be at MAM on April 22nd & 23rd. We can't wait!!

  • PFM Racing happenings

Well, we have been quite busy. Jude and Jim decided to build a rally truck to run in 100 Acre Wood about 5 weeks before the 100AW. Not only did they get the truck done but Jim and Tess finished 5th and had a great time. Now the truck will be massaged and we hope to hit another rally in Pennsylvania in June.

Now to the SCCA road race cars. We are heading to Memphis this weekend, March 11 & 12th and Jude will run in ITA on Saturday and in EP on Sunday. We hope to win the ITA Midwest Division Championship and qualify for the SCCA Runoffs in EP.

All of this and more is on the website which Pete so kindly updated so check it out!

What would the world be with out race cars, or trucks for that matter!

  • How things are going.....

So, we sold the RX7!!! It went to an absolutely wonderful home with Jim Stevens. He met all the criteria for a good home with a fenced yard and all. Now we can get back to work on the 240SX. We will be installing a fuel cell and a fire system so that Jude can run the car in E Production as well as ITA. I will be building another motor or two for next year and we will probably be upgrading the suspension. To be honest, we haven't touched the car since we got back from Atlanta so there is quite a bit of work to be done before February so I am off to the garage!!! Oh yeah, for Christmas I bought Jude a 1990 240SX trunk car. I found the car at the corner of Union and Natural Bridge for a song. It runs great and looks pretty good. He really enjoys it.

  • ARRC

That was the most fun I have ever had at a race track with my pants on! I recommend that everyone got to Road Atlanta for the American Road Race of Champions www.arrc_online.com. Jude and Jim both ran for two hours on the 10th (Jude's birthday)flawlessly. The cars were fast and both of them had a great time. Friday was qualifying for the Sprint races on Saturday. Jim ran great as did Bob Stretch in the 240SX. The weather was wonderful. Saturday both Jim and Bob did great. Bob finished 12th out of 39 or so cars and Jim finished 8th out of 16 or so cars. We were simply down on motor. The folks who run at the ARRC take this seriously. Next year we will be putting in fresh motors right before ARRC. This is going to become a yearly event for us - a birthday gift for the world's most wonderful husband! I need to give a big thanks to Jim Stevens for making racing fun again, to Patrick Findley for pushing Jude to be better, to Erica Bass and Matt Miller for being the best crew at Atlanta and to my husband for just being Jude.

  • 240SX Update

So, we are just waiting on parts. It is terribly frustrating. We are taking the car to Memphis for the Drivers School/Regional to work out any problems that might arise.

There is a Jim Wolf ECU on the way along with some sweet JDM parts (because we couldn't find them anywhere else). Jude intends to make the car look more like a PFM car this weekend, weather permitting.

After Memphis we will be taking the car to Gateway for the Halloween race for more shakedown so that it is ready to go to Atlanta for the American Road Race of Champions. The intention is to run in the sprint race on Saturday with a very fast “guest” driver and then Jim Stevens and Jude are going to run the car in the Enduro on Sunday. I can't wait!

In other PFM news, the ITC Honda CRX is nearly complete and might be at the Memphis Drivers School. The rally VW is progressing right along and will be ready sometime in early 2006.

Jude and I are also comtemplating getting in to dirt track racing. We accompanied Jim Stevens to I-55 Speedway to watch him run his Sportsman's car. What a blast, now we just need to find a chassie....

  • Racing is fun!

Jude and I debuted our newest creation this weekend at Gateway. It is a 1989 Nissan 240SX. It is cool. We had a few teething problems on Saturday and Jude was not able to finish the race.

We were able to fix the problem on Sunday and Jude had afabulous time. He started dead last and finished mid pack. And he did all of this with the factory 105mph fuel defense cut out in place. Once we actually get the car set up and get it to a dyno it will be even faster.

I need to thank everyone who helped us this weekend, particularly Matt, Erica, Doug and Curt!!! You guys are great!

I can't wait to go to the ARRC with this car!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • No Bears at the Fair

This year Welde's Big Bear Show will be performing at the Washington Town & Country Fair. This will be the first time in modern history that the Fair will feature a wild animal act. The Welde's say that it is an educational act. I belive that the exploitation of wild animals for commercial profit is unnecessary to educate the public. How does a bear riding a tricycle educate anyone about the habitat or the bear for that matter? Apparently, the Fair Board is spending $8,000 to bring the bears to the Fair.

I have always loved going to the fair to see all of the farm animals. This is very different, these are wild animals that should be in the wild not performing in Missouri, in August heat. Please help me in trying to convince the Fair Board to cancel the show. I know that many of you are not willing to boycott the Fair but if we all write a letter it may convince them to rethink their decision.

The following website has been set up to help organize oppostion to the bear show www.nobearsatthefair.com
Please let the Fair Board know that an exploitation of wild animals does not add to your enjoyment of the fair by emailing George Meyer jgiesike@washmo.org

Please write a letter to the editor and let everyone know how you feel.

Below is my letter to the editot.

    To the editor:

This year there will be performing bears at the Washington Town & Country Fair. This gives me cause for concern. No matter how you look at it, this is exploitation disguised as education. These animals are being asked to do unnatural acts in August in Missouri. Forcing animals to perform unnatural acts in unnatural conditions does not show in any way their true nature. Also, it does not tell the audience anything about the environment from which the animal came.

Bears are wild animals and not meant to be caged to entertain. They are transported and kept in 6ft. by 8ft. enclosures, they perform in a 50 foot cage and they are asked to perform three times a day during the heat of the day. This is simply cruel. Keep in mind how hot you get during the day at the fair and then put on a fur coat!

Please help me by writing letters to the Washington Town & Country Fair Board. Please tell them that you will not be attending the bear show and tell them why. The address is:

The Washington Town & County Fair Board
c/o The Washington Area Chamber of Commerce

    Thank you,

  • Icky Ford Problems

So, I have had the Mustang for a year and three months. It has 49,000 miles on it. Things are starting to go bad.

1 - The front struts are really weak and need to be replaced.

2 - The outer tie rod ends are squeaking.

3 - The carrier bearings in the rear end are, shall we say, loose.

The solve? Well, I think I will put Koni's all round. That will solve the strut problem. I will replace the tie rods, hopefully this weekend.

As far as the rearend is concerned, I am tempted to get an IRS from a Cobra and install it. That would be fun!!!!

I love the car but 45,000 miles a year mostly on crappy Missouri interstates is tough on it.
