Why I won't be buying a Cadillac CTS-V

So a few days ago I was on this CTS-V kick. I decided I'd get a CTS-V to replace the Tahoe, something fun to drive every day, yet still refined. I looked around, found one I was interested in locally and went to drive it tonight.

Driving: The thing is amazing, fun to drive, fast as hell, and stops well.

Everything Else: I wasn't impressed. I had hoped with a Cadillac I'd get some "wow", but honestly, I didn't get any wow. The dash had some wear around the navigation screen, the rest of the interior had some wear and tear. Nothing major, but honestly nothing that jumped out at me with a "you have to buy this, wow". I sat in the back seat, holy crap that's not gonna work. I'm 6'3", I'm not sure a 6' person could sit back there. There is NO headroom whatsoever.

So, that is that, the car is fun to drive, fast as hell, but didn't give me enough for how much it would end up costing. So the Tahoe stays around. Besides, I should keep the Tahoe and find an LS1 to put into the 240Z, a Caddy might be fun, but I'm not going to find one that fun with room like the Tahoe has for taking everyone to lunch at work. I'm the bus driver

Is the T/C off button in the glove box like on the regular CTS?  Your describtion sounds alot like the rental Arshad et al got for the USGP, except with the saving grace of some umph.

There was a TC control in the glove box, but also on the steering wheel.

There was plenty of umph, though with that umph came some HORRIBLE wheel hop, of which I hear tends to tear up diffs on the 04/05 cars. The car does have a 100k miles warrenty when certified used, so the diff might not be an issue for a while

What do you expect?  It ain't an ultimate driving machine!  (You know you want one)

honestly, go drive a low milage E39 540i with a 6 speed.  At the last local autocross I drove my 540i, and got a chance to ride in a brand new CTS-V and oomph-wise they were similar, the caddy had a bit more roll, and the interior of my '95 luxobarge was a little nicer.   And I made more sideways smoke :-P Don't expect large sedan rear leg room though.

You're correct in that the CTS-V's have some rear differential problems.  Hopefully they take car of that in the next-gen '09.  I've autocrossed my CTS-V a few times.  You definitely feel it's 3900lb curb weight.  It will never be a class-winning car in auto-x.  The open road course is where this thing belongs.

As far as a 540 coming close to a CTS-V in performance, well, you must also be faster than a E39 M5...because the V tests slightly faster than it does in every category.

Here's my inexpensively modded (relative to stuff like Dinan) CTS-V...
