First off, I'll state, I think racism is stupid, and people who treat other races/nationalities/sexes different are idiots and shouldn't be allowed to raise children.

But I think Al Sharpton is a media hungry fool.

This was totally just a bad choice of words on the anchor's part, to suggest that she be fired, Al is just looking for his time in the spotlight yet again....

    Thoughts?

I'm not a big TV buff, but did anyone else see the episode of South Park that featured the Rev. Al Sharpton? Pure comedy. [Y]

I could see it going either way.  The problem is the word: "lynch" and as we all know it mostly refers to the hanging of black folks.  If the same comment were made about lynching a white golfer, no one would think anything of it.  The way I see it, who gives a crap, his intention was that killing Tiger Woods is the only way of beating him.  It's basically a compliment. In today's politically correct atmosphere, I would definitely tell you that your thinking hat was not "On" when you made that comment on public TV. Nonetheless, that is an issue which is totally aside from the character/demeanor of the man called Al Sharpton.  Al is definitely an opportunist.  He just looks for these types of incidents, slicks his hair backwards, and looks to make a living by asking for folks to be sent to the electric chair.   One must also bear in mind, that black-america does have a need for public figures to stand up for them.  If we think about it, it was only recently that they were granted most of their freedoms and the impact of their past still haunts their current socio-economic situation.  If someone doesn't speak up for them, who will. Additionally, don't tell me that everything is peachy for them and that they are on a completely level playing field.  Substantial progress has been made, but hurdles remain.  Some of which the african-american community has to overcome on its own (changes in levels of education, political activism, cultural phenomena, etc).  I just wish that instead of Al Sharpton it was an African-American figure who is somebody that is more likable, less opportunist, friendlier looking, less constantly angry, etc.

Pretty much agree. I think he'd get a lot more traction and be a lot more effective as a leader if he didn't respond to a situation by throwing gasoline on the fire. I recall a few years ago there was controversy about monority participation on a highway project. Valid point, we need more qualified trades on jobs and as part of that we need qualified monorities. Al came into town, they shut the highway down, had the news cameras show up and then he left. Now I can't say if he was involved after the fact, but I doubt it. All he does is raise the anger level. What gets results is for two sides to get together with a willingness to fix it.

Agreed he comes in makes his show and leaves with what to show for it but another news clip and a bunch of angry people.

I just have this to say to the great Reverend Al Sharpton. Just because you have the right to free speech doesn't mean you have to use it.

I think all he does is shakedown companies anyway.

I have been sending his campaign $7 a year for the last 8 years and now I can go ahead and not deal with minorities without him coming and forcing me to work with brown people.  They don't speak English anyway and they all use a splash of Brut after-shave under the arm-pits for deodorant.   Aside from the joy of not dealing with minorities and being able to attend the local Aryan Power meetings without repercussions from Al Sharpton, he also sends me an annual brochure that details how I can style my hair the Al Sharpton way. Thank you for letting me waste about 25 seconds of your life.

Well if he's not going to get on you now, I guess I'll have to step up.  You better have plenty of white people working for you or I'm gonna show up with my posse and shut you down.
