6 Replies and 110 Views Racing is not like driving.  110  6 Started by  sburkett Okay, maybe you've all heard it before, but this is a GREAT quote from a great man, and potentially useful when trying to "e;explain"e; racing to non-racers. I've put my favorite line in italics:"e;Few people outside racing can appreciate that race driving is not like driving on the road at all. A racing car is always in an attitude at corners, never pointing as directly fore-and-aft in its line of travel as a road car would be in normal motoring. The racing car is sliding , to so...

54 Replies and 419 Views double clutching ...  419  54 Started by  Vibe
(Topic has multiple pages1 2 3 )
i have been meaning to ask for a while. Firstly, I double-clutch every downshift.....opinions so if i am approaching a stop sign i double clutch into 2nd....apply light braking and then double clutch into 1st and brake to almost a stop but then i can accelerate and get under way again w/o having to use the clutch at all. so at the stop sign i never use the clutch...im already in first so i brake to almost a stop and then ease on the gas and basically drive it like an automatic. is this good or ...

Weeeeeeee I'll start with the RX8, since it felt slower but would be much, much faster around anything with turns in it, just from my preliminary drive. The guy said I can come back at 10am tomorrow and drive it for a few hours! Chris, want to take some vids :D Engine: Marvelous, everything was better than an S2k (And remember, I'm a SERIOUS Honda nazi) except for the power. Throttle response was instant, heel and toeing was second nature, and the sound was incredible. A better mill in every ...

10 Replies and 135 Views Driving review: 2004 Acura TL  135  10 Started by  jsarino While I was at Dave Mungenast Acura on Halloween night (pricing out an axle), it was VERY slow, as in, I was the only customer there. The sales guy practically talked me into test driving the 2004 TL (SportShift model). Per the sales guy, their aim is to have this car compete against the 5 series BMW. So, I take it out, with him riding shotgen. The interior is beautiful, with all the switches and such in easy reach. It doesn't look "e;cheap"e;, like Nissan's/Infiniti's interiors of late (...

8 Replies and 121 Views Driving Observations from a passenger (long)  121  8 Started by  Andy Since starting instructing in Novice schools and in the Intermediate program here in St. Louis I've noticed a couple things concerning driver control issues I'd like to point out. The 3 most often seen errors, IMHO, are 3) too much steering input, 2) too aggressive with the gas, 1)braking. They are all intricatly related because doing one wrong will tend to lead to doing one of the others. The biggest difference between a novice and an experienced autocrosser is the use of the brakes. From my ob...

6 Replies and 129 Views Driving impressions from Sunday's Yin/Yang drives  129  6 Started by  PylonSi Some of you may have noticed I wasn't there in the Civic. I was driving Bob Ploof's Impala SS and was offered a drive in Axis Power Racing's '90 Miata as well, so I took fun runs in 2nd heat in that thing. Anyway, first Bob's car:It handles pretty awesome, it's just gigantic. It's also set up so that no matter what, it will NOT understeer. Never. Ever. Oversteer all the time. Not what you'd expect out of something that huge, but it's fast if you can control it. I only had one clean run and it ...
