37 Replies and 356 Views How much time is weight worth?  356  37 Started by  rjsams
(Topic has multiple pages1 2 )
Out of curiousity given two car with equal power to weight and on the same size tires. One which weights ~3200lbs and one at ~2600lbs. Anyone have an idea how much time that weight diffrence might be worth. The reason I ask is I am trying to figure out if I have any hope of competing in SM with the E46. The E36 guys out here are all in the 2600lbs range and I am currently sitting around 3400. I can drop up to 200 but thats about the limit and keep the car streetable. They are running tires...

9 Replies and 198 Views Slalom Technique  198  9 Started by  kenkamm I just ordered the Secrets of Solo Racing book. I've done about 10 events and I'm struggling the most with the slaloms. My car, an 03 M3, is on the stock suspension and I'm competing in A-Stock. I'm having a bit of trouble figuring out how to dance this car through the slaloms. The slaloms I tend to encounter at my local events are not the evenly spaced type, or even the opening or closing type, but tend to be more of a combination, which really keeps you on your toes trying to speed up, slow do...

14 Replies and 197 Views Switching from AWD to RWD--help!  197  14 Started by  Stephanie After two full seasons in AWD I'm making the switch to RWD. As the St Louis crew knows, I improved greatly over the past two years (thank you Evo school :) and seat time) but still wasn't competitive in STX. From the start of last year until the end of the year I picked up about 3-4s off Phil's (aka, husband's) time but that still left me 1.5s at best off the NJE pace (yes, I'm slow in case you haven't figured that out yet). Part of the reason I struggle is because I tend to underdrive the ...

12 Replies and 225 Views entering a corner with fwd car  225  12 Started by  peterdmiller I'm looking for a little bit of advice on what people think is the best way to enter a corner with a fwd car. I run a new sentra spec V and do pretty well with it(usually one of the top 3 spots in the class), but I think there is room for me to improve, especially entering a corner. Everybody always says to completely finish braking before entering the turn, but I generally am still a little on the brakes or engine braking as I enter a turn to unweight the rear wheels. If I oversteer too much...

10 Replies and 175 Views Automatic Tranny, how to drive?  175  10 Started by  Dubwho I've seen a few fast autocrossers driving automatics. A few vettes have changed their valve bodies to manual versions. I know very little, except that it is supposed allow you to chose the gear at any time. Well, for down shifting, can you revmatch from 2nd to 1st without upsetting the suspension (jerking the hell out of it) I just don't see how downshifting through a tight turn can be done efficiently in an automatic. Please help educate me!

7 Replies and 133 Views I can't drive.  133  7 Started by  The_Driver So, I bought a 2002 Honda S2000 last friday. My problem is that I can't drive my car, well, I can, but then I can't. See, it's a 6-speed manual transmission and it's the first one that I've owned. I've driven others before for a few hours or even had my friends NSX for the weekend and no problems driving those manuals. This S2000 though, is pissing me off. I can drive it great in a spirited manner, on curvy roads at high speeds, sideways, or just quick acceleration. The thing that ge...
